How Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) And Dermal Rollers Work

Although there are no outward signs of damage, one single micro needle causes a tiny wound in the skin. You cannot see it or feel it as the damage is on a minute scale. Despite the minuscule nature of the wound, the body still acts to heal itself in its own natural way.

The post traumatic response of the skin is to produce collagen and elastin - two of the key building blocks of skin. As there has been no removal or "real" damage to existing collagen, the new formations of it simply add to existing levels.

Imagine now that on a typical roller, there are 192 needles. If when using the dermal roller the skin is several times in multiple directions, this is thousands of needle entries, all of which will act to stimulate new collagen fibers. It is not difficult to see that over time, this will act to massively increase the thickness, suppleness and general condition of the skin in these areas.

Step One - The microneedles of the dermal roller penetrate the epidermis and dermis layer of skin. The process should not be painful.

In addition to stimulating collagen growth, microneedling also create channels through which skin care products applied to the skins surface can be absorbed far more easily and deeper. It is, after all, the skins job to keep things out and piercing this shield works well in breaking down that barrier for a limited time.

What this means is any topical application used actually reaches the areas it is intended for. Studies suggest that using a dermal roller in this way can boost the effectiveness of topical treatment by several hundred percent.

Dermal Rolling
It is important to follow our recommended skincare regimen. Collagen and elastin will regenerate faster with growths factors and Vitamin A, C and E. We can provide you the products that will considerably increase your dermal rolling results.

Step 2 - The derma roller needles will leave micro channels into the skin. This gives a pathway for skin products to penetrate far more easily, boosting their effectiveness massively. These channels should close up within an hour.

With the thickening of skin, the top epidermis layer lies tighter and firmer. Its outward appearance is improved as it looks younger and healthier.

Step 3 - The skin naturally begins its response to the "trauma" of the skin needles. Collagen and elastin is generated and added to the existing stock of the skin- Bulking up the thickness, creating great looking, firmer and healthier looking skin.

What is Dermal Rolling?
Dermal rolling is an FDA approved application. Even the stars of Hollywood are having Dermal Roller treatments to rejuvenate and smooth their skin.

How does Dermal Rolling work?
Dermal rollers are used for a treatment process called micro needling or skin needling. It is a form of collagen induction therapy, quickly gaining popularity in the USA, UK and Europe. Dermal rollers are already hugely popular in parts of Asia where skin needling has been practiced for some time. Unlike other treatments for acne scars, stretch marks and wrinkles, dermal rollers do not damage the skin or remove the epidermis layer.

What are the advantages of Skin Needling?
  1. Dermal roller treatments do not take a lot of time
  2. Does not visibly damage the skin
  3. Minimal downtime
  4. Any part of the body can be treated with the dermal roller
  5. All skin types can undergo microneedling without fear of hyper pigmentation
  6. Skin becomes naturally thicker and tighter with the increase of collagen
  7. Dermal rolling dramatically increases the effectiveness of skin care products
Enhance the results of chemical peels and laser treatments, such as photo facials and laser resurfacing.

What can Dermal rolling treat?
  • Stretch Marks
  • Acne Scars
  • Scars
  • Anti-Wrinkle Treatment
  • Anti-Aging
  • Hyperpigmentation/Brown spots (sun spots, melasma)
  • Balding
  • Cellulite

How long before I see results from my Dermal Roller Treatment?
The rate at which you will get results depends on what condition is being treating and how extensively your skin needs to remodel. This process of skin remodeling can continue for literally months after each Dermal Rolling treatment, but visibly noticeable changes can be seen within a week! Your skin naturally renews itself every 30 days, so with a little stimulation, changes can be dramatic and fast.

How many treatments will I need?
The rate at which you will get results depends on what condition is being treating and how extensively.

Can Dermal Rolling be done on any part of the body?
Almost any part of the body: the arms, hands, legs, thighs, body, abdomen, neck, face, cheeks, scalp, even around the eye area - such as crow's feet and frown lines.

What pre-treatment preparation is necessary?
It is important that your skin is primed - the best results will be achieved if the skin is in its best possible condition prior to treatment. Your treatment provider will develop a skincare regime to prepare your skin for treatment. This regime should be followed for at least one-two weeks prior to treatment. Immediately prior to your treatment, numbing cream (topical anesthetic) will be applied to the area to be treated.

What commitment is required?
Priming the skin before treatment is important to ensure optimal results are achieved. Ideally, this will involve at least two weeks of following a prescribed skincare regime.

On the day of the treatment, at least one hour before the treatment the topical anesthetic will be applied. Following the treatment, your skin will be red and puffy, so you may want to go home rather than back to the office.

You may experience some temporary side effects over the next few days, eg; redness and bruising. Following the prescribed skincare regime after the treatment, will ensure optimal results and also lessen the potential for any negative side effects.

How many treatments do I need?
There are different types of dermal rollers available for your treatment. Each of these rollers will be suited for certain skin types and conditions. After preparing your skin it is recommended a course of three to five treatments at four to six weekly intervals. Thereafter, maintenance treatments of two to four times per year (minimum three months between each treatment) are recommended.

How do I get started?
Dermal rolling treatments are available for $99 in your membership. A second area can be done for $75. Other treatment providers charge $200+ per treatment, per area. An individual microneedle roller must be purchased for $89. Your microneedle roller will be used for several treatments (4-6), depending on the area being treated. Your microneedle roller is only you available for you. We safely store and sanitize your roller between each treatment. The microneedle roller is a professional grade roller, made of surgical stainless steel. These rollers are for professional use only and provide the most aggressive treatment only available by skin care professionals.

What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a simple, non-surgical, therapeutic, muscle relaxing injectable agent approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that smoothes wrinkles for a healthy, youthful appearance.

What are the benefits of BOTOX?
  • Skin remains unwrinkled and smooth
  • Correct visible signs of stress and aging
  • Relaxed and youthful appearance
  • No down time
  • Can be combined with other procedures to maximize results
  • Non-invasive
  • Quick

How does BOTOX® work? What areas can be treated?
Over time, smiles or frowns cause "expression lines" around your eyes or between your brows. BOTOX® is injected and blocks the nerve impulses of facial muscles that enable expressions. This allows muscles to relax and wrinkles to fade. You can frown or smile without creases or wrinkles.

How long do the results Last?
Benefits of a BOTOX® treatment typically start fading in about four months. Results are cumulative with repeated treatments, extending the effectiveness of this procedure approximately six to eight months.

How long before I start to see results?
The effect of BOTOX® is typically visible within three days. In about ten to fourteen days the muscle completely relaxes, the skin softens and reveals a relaxed and youthful appearance.

What sensations will I experience during a session? Does it hurt?
Discomfort is minimal and brief. Clients have reported a "pin prick" feeling similar to the sensation of a bug bite. At your request, the Physician will use some ice to minimize any discomfort.

Is BOTOX® safe?
BOTOX® is safe and is the only treatment of its kind approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). BOTOX® only effects muscles at the treatment site and does not extend to other areas of the body.

Are there side effects?
Over a million people have experienced BOTOX®. Rare cases of side effects are usually mild, temporary and include: headache, flu symptoms, nausea, and light bruising at the injection sight or a slight, impermanent drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of expression.

What should I expect after a treatment?
You may resume regular activities immediately following a treatment, even though there may be temporary bruising or redness at the injection site.

Is there anything I should NOT do after treatment?
You should not lie down for at least four hours after your treatment. This gives the BOTOX® a chance to completely saturate the muscle tissue.

Are there any reasons I shouldn't have BOTOX®?
Yes, BOTOX® is not recommended for clients who are:
  • Pregnant or nursing
  • Taking any other medications or supplements
  • Allergic to Botulinum Toxin Type A
  • Prone to a history of botulism poisoning

What services would ideally supplement BOTOX®?
Optimum results can be obtained to correct, minimize and prevent wrinkles from forming when BOTOX® is used in conjunction with these procedures:
  • facelift
  • laser resurfacing
  • skin rejuvenation

It's difficult to put into words how pleased
I am with my visit to Bella Beau MedSpa! I have a very low tolerance for pain when it comes to the Radiesse injections. Dr. Martens was so kind and so patient with me.  I barely felt the Radiesse injections.  Not a single tear came to my eyes!  You have no idea what a miracle this was
for me.  I can't frown anymore and my
smile lines have disappeared!!!  I want to thank all of you for making it such a pleasant experience.  I will never have anyone but Dr. Martens do my procedures from now on and will happily return to
Bella Beau!  Lori

What is laser hair removal?
Are you tired of removing unwanted hair? Just imagine a revolutionary time saving alternative to plucking, tweezing, shaving and waxing. Imagine not having to prepare for a day at the beach with your permanently, wonderfully smooth bikini line. Men, even you get to imagine getting rid your unwanted hair until the end of time. Now you can stop dreaming, because laser hair removal is real!

What are the benefits of laser hair removal?
  • A gentle technique that eliminates undesirable hair
  • Smooth and silky looking skin
  • Large bodily areas treated quickly and effectively
  • Minimal discomfort
  • No razor burn or bumps from ingrown hair
  • Replaces waxing, electrolysis and razors
  • Immediate return to normal activities

How does laser hair removal work?
Lasers utilize light energy that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft and transfers thermal heat to the hair follicle. The hair follicle is permanently disabled from future hair growth.

Are laser treatments safe?
Yes, the energy generated by the laser is designed to target the hair follicle. Our treatment staff has undergone thorough training and has extensive experience working with the laser equipment to ensure effective and safe results.

Do the treatments hurt?
You may feel a tingling or slight stinging sensation and some areas of your body may be more sensitive than others. Most clients are comfortable during the session.

How many treatment sessions are necessary?
Typically, it takes an average of 6 sessions 3-4 weeks apart for the face and 6-8 weeks apart on the body for the sessions to produce optimal results. The number of follicles active during each treatment determines how many sessions will be necessary to effectively stop hair growth. Other factors may include skin and hair color, age, weight, ethnicity, hormones, diet, medications, metabolism or stress. Dark hair with light skin will respond the fastest typically averaging 5 treatments. Lighter hair like red or blonde with dark skin will average 8 treatments for maximum results.

How many hair follicles are in an active growth stage at any given time?
Only about 20% of the thousands of hair follicles found in one square inch of skin are in an active growth stage at any given time. This is why multiple sessions are necessary to achieve desired results.

After completing a series of laser treatments, will I need future treatments?
Maybe, hair follicles in a dormant state during the initial series of laser treatments may eventually become active and need to be eliminated with a simple touch up treatment. Hairs that grow from these follicles are often finer in texture and lighter in color.

How does laser treatment compare with other hair removal methods?
The energy generated by the laser is used to simultaneously target hundreds of hair follicles, making it effective, permanent, safe and non-invasive. Therefore, it does not cause rashes, ingrown hair, or any other pain or trauma typically associated with outdated hair removal methods.

What should I expect after a treatment?
You may experience redness and mild tenderness in the treated area shortly after your session. This does not interfere with normal activities and will usually subside within a few hours of the session. In rare cases, redness may last longer, but will still be mild and temporary. Around 3-10 days after your treatment, hair will surface from the treated follicles looking like new growth; however, hair is actually beginning to shed. Often the hair will get darker and thicker just before it falls out. You may want to use a loofah or glove to help remove the hair as it falls out.

Is there anything I shouldn't do after treatment?
Yes, to ensure optimal results and safety, please:
  • Do not wax, pluck, or bleach your treated areas between sessions (shaving is okay).
  • Do not expose the treatment areas to direct sunlight. Do not use tanning beds at any time during your laser treatment intervals. (Please use a sunscreen daily if the areas to be treated will be exposed to sunlight).
  • Do not apply any products on the treated areas of your skin except sunscreen if you will be outside. Avoid Retin-A®, alpha-hydroxy acids, glycolic acids, astringents, etc. (You may wash gently with soap and water, but do not rub or scrub the area for several days following your treatment).
  • Do not pick or manipulate the skin in the treatment areas.

Are there any reasons I shouldn't have a laser treatment?
Yes, laser hair removal is not recommended for those clients who:
  • Are pregnant
  • Have diabetes
  • Have a history of skin keloids as they may be prone to scarring after any skin trauma including laser treatment
  • Have used Acutane® (Isotretinion) in the past 6 months
  • Are actively using photosensitive medication
  • Have an active infection or history of herpes simplex in the area to be treated
  • Have a history of personal or familial skin cancer
  • Have been tanning within the last couple of weeks
